A HAND UP

Poverty is the primary driver in the predatory orphanage system. Poor families are targeted and deceived into believing that their child will be better off in the orphanage.

Africa Youth Rising provides mutual aid as a voluntary redistribution of wealth to directly combat the effects of poverty.

Imagine the difference between a family being able to stay together or a child being trafficked into an orphanage was the cost of one meal, or one month’s rent, or one bag of rice. For families on the brink it can be something as small as this. If we can stop a family from falling off the edge by supplying a bit of cash or a package of food, we do not hesitate. Just a little bit of help can go a long way for a family to stay together, and to keep their children out of the orphanage, and at home where they belong.

We also work to combat poverty through direct employment. Wherever possible, and especially at Grace House, we work to employ high-risk mothers. Giving these women direct economic access decreases the likelihood that their children will end up in orphanages, it breaks the cycle of poverty, and increases the chances that their children will grow up outside of the poverty cycle.

Take Action in Solidarity, Not Charity

Your support helps keep families together.

Africa Youth Rising facilitates mutual aid, not handouts, ensuring that mothers have the resources they need to care for their children and prevent unnecessary family separation. When you contribute, you’re not saving anyone, you’re standing with them, recognizing their dignity and right to thrive.

Join us in redistributing resources, from one community to another, to break cycles of poverty and keep children where they belong: at home, with their families.
