EDUCATION AT
ALL LEVELS

Education means more than just school, and education is widely accepted as a primary tool in alleviating poverty. Education is a tool we use to keep children out of orphanages.

For Africa Youth Rising, education takes many forms:

AYR provides scholarships to disadvantaged disabled children who are able to attend government special needs schools.

These children have the necessary activities of daily living skills, such as self-movement, eating, and communication that are required to attend public schools.

They get to join their peers at special needs schools where they work on basic education such as communication, identification of items, socialization, and other skills to function in society.

If they are capable, they can learn reading, writing, drawing, and even life skills such as basic money matters, etc.

AYR provides scholarships for children who have been reunited, after residential stays, with their families, but the family lacks the means to pay for schooling.

This is a major way we can work to keep children with their families rather than having them trafficked to residential care.

Although public school is tuition free in Ghana, pupils are required to provide all of their own supplies including uniforms and school supplies including writing materials, pencils, PTA fees, etc.

We help with the cost burden of schools to ensure their family can stay united and to help the family break the cycle of poverty through education.

Not every student is made for traditional education, and in Ghana a vocational education has a higher likelihood of being able to be supportive.

Our vocational scholarships are aimed at individuals who have come from a residential care facility, or are at risk of having their children end up in a residential care facility.

We provide the funds and supplies necessary or them to gain competency in a trade.

All of these scholarships are aimed at keeping children out of the predatory orphanage system.

Lack of education is a key component of vulnerability, and providing access to education at all levels can break this cycle.

Education changes everything.

At Africa Youth Rising, we know that education is more than books and classrooms — it’s a tool for keeping families together and building strong, self-sustaining communities.

Together with local partners and caregivers, we support educational opportunities that help children stay out of orphanages and with the people who know and love them.

Your support helps remove the financial barriers that stand between a child and their education — whether that’s school supplies, vocational training, or special needs programs.

Donate today to stand with families and invest in lasting change. One student at a time.
